Ys Origin

I picked this game up on sale without knowing anything about the Ys series, and I’m glad I did. It’s a very simple hack and slash dungeon crawler with basic RPG mechanics. Just enough RPG stuff to feel satisfying, but not so much that you’ve got to use your brain. Combat is simple but still a lot of fun. Honestly the game is kind of mindless, but in a good way. It’s something to blast through when you’re not looking to think too hard. It’s also got that great PS2-era aesthetic with pre-rendered sprites, and I’m crazy about all that. Highly recommended if you’re into this kind of stuff.
