Buy some whole peppercorns.
Buy a pepper grinder.
Put the peppercorns in the pepper grinder.
Grind that pepper.
Seriously, freshly grinding pepper unlocks a whole new level of flavor. I still keep pre-ground pepper around for dishes that use a lot of it like soups and sauces, but in smaller amounts and especially right on top of completed dishes before serving, nothing beats fresh.
I don’t have any brand recommendations, I only suggest going for something decently high quality. Avoid all-plastic designs, try to go with as much glass, metal or wood as possible.
